Mount Joy Dental has been serving the Markham area since 1987. We took our name from the fact that our office is located in the historic property known as the Mount Joy General Store.
We offer all types of dental services in a friendly, warm environment. We have worked hard to create a home-like feel to the décor in our dental office. Although the building was built in 1892, we are a thoroughly modern dental practice with many state of the art technologies. After purchasing the building in 1992, we undertook a major renovation to rescue this deteriorating heritage building on Markham's old Main Street. The result is a modern and efficient clinic providing advanced dental care and preservation of a landmark for all of our town's citizens.
Dr. Chari joined Mount Joy Dental in June of 2000 and became the sole proprietor of the practice in 2009.
Dr. Opie Chari attended the University of Ottawa completing a Bachelor of Science Degree Magna Cum Laude in 1994 and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology Suma Cum Laude in 1995.
He went on to study Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario and received his DDS Degree in 1999. After graduation, Dr. Chari furthered his education in dentistry by doing a 1 year hospital residency. during this time, he performed and assisted in numerous complex oral & maxofacial surgeries and treated many medically compromised patients. He was on call for the London area hospitals dealing with dental emergencies involving teeth, jaw fractures and soft tissue lacerations.
Dr. Chari's continuing education interest have included introducing CEREC to the practice, comprehensive courses on dental implant surgery and prosthetics, IV Sedation and a 2 year continuing education course on orthodontics. In addition, he received his Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists in 2006 and is currently working on attaining his diplomate status. In 2011, Dr Chari completed the surgical and prosthetic programs from the Misch International Implant Institute. This program deals with advanced treatment planning and prosthetic options as it pertains to dental implants. Dr. Chari served as the York Regional Dental Society president in 2010 and 2011 and sits as a councilor for the Ontario Dental Association.
Believing that perpetual learning based in sound scientific principles is critical to the success of today's dentistry, Dr. Chari continues his education in the areas of bone grafting, advanced orthodontics and CAD/CAM restorative design.
His career goal is to remain on the leading edge of advanced dental treatment.
Aside from dentistry, Dr. Chari and his wife Navina are busy raising their two girls. He is a sports enthusiast enjoying many sports. He finds time to work out regularly, believing that life is all about balance!
Dr. Saggar joined Mount Joy Dental in October 2010 and has become an important part of our dedicated team. Shivani Saggar graduated from Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario in 2002. She has found dentistry to be an exciting profession and not only enjoys the clinical aspects but also the interpersonal interactions with patients. Organizational dentistry has been of interest to her and she's been actively involved with committees for the Ontario Dental Association as well as serving as president for the Essex County Dental Society.
She has continued upgrading her skills with courses on Nitrous Oxide sedation and firmly believes that continuing education is an integral part of providing exceptional dental care. She has three children and in her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing sports and playing her violin.
